Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian has been informed by Nintendo of America that New Super Mario Bros. Wii has made “a good start” at retail during its first three days of availability.
“We expect the strong sell-through to continue in the coming weeks,” he said in an investor note. “However, it is unclear whether the new title has driven incremental hardware sales, which remains a concern for the overall videogame industry.”
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has forecast that New Super Mario Bros. Wii could sell as many as ten million copies during the current financial year ending in March.
Following a meeting with Nintendo, Sebastian also said that he expects the company to launch a Wii video-on-demand service in the US “eventually”.
“Nintendo highlighted early adoption of its expanded content delivery in Japan via the Wii-no-Ma service. Wii-no-Ma is a video on demand channel accessible via the Wii and offers family oriented features and content supported by advertising. We expect Nintendo to continue experimenting with content delivery and eventually to launch a service in the US, establishing a family oriented media hub in the living room, and providing a more competitive option to Xbox Live and PlayStation Home.”
Nintendo’s Iwata said in April that overseas deployment of the Wii-no-Ma Channel “is under planning in the future”. Also accessible via DSi for portable viewing, the service offers both original programming and a space for partner companies to serve up promotional videos.
I bought this game on release day in the UK and I haven't really stopped playing it. I had a houseful of friends round that night and we sat and played four-player Mario into the early hours of the morning. I don't know how we enjoyed it though - there was no anti-aliasing, no destructable environments, no DLC, no cutting-edge graphics. All very odd.
This is a game that will challenge your reaction times and hand-eye coordination better than games like Halo and GoW ever could. As one of my mates declared "It's only frustrating when I die because I know I'm not good enough yet"
Make no mistake, this is a hardcore Wii title AND fun all at the same time. Nintendo has served up yet another solid gold title and one that I will be playing for months to come. The only thing that could make this game better is the inclusion of online league tables - but only to reward the game with the same sense of community that was present in Mario Kart.
Great to hear! I have put an official request in with my girlfriend to get me a black Wii with this game for crimbo. I've had to promise not to sell it as quick as I did my old Wii though.
You just can't beat a good old fashioned 2-D Mario game. I want this game regardless of the multiplayer aspect, multiplayer is just icing on the cake. They should re-release Super Mario All Stars with added multiplayer on each game. SMB 2 would be a much better game played with 2 or more players.
Good post Stu, it's definitely not for gaming noobs brought up on Halo.
Wow!! Nintendo released a 2D side-scrolling platformer on a home console as a full retail release in 2009. Amazing. Just when I thought my contempt for Nintendo could not increase anymore.
Seriously though THIS is exactly what sega should do with Sonic
true no 3d sonic has really taken off, the should go back to basics....
Are these Xbox gamers who are thinking they are the smarter people? Please! The morons you get on Live are just as worse (if not more so) than the dimwits who are into X-Factor or Ant & Dec. Not that I myself are into either. I detest them if fact, though to their credit, the two chimps have been playing Nintendo for a long time (well, allegedly). I don't watch either, yet it can be hard to ignore total wankers on Live when you're playing against them and I don't mean just in terms of voice chat only.
Xbox owners need to get a grip and stop thinking you're some kind of gaming royalty, especially since M$uck are bombarding people with their ads during X-Factor. What does that say you fucking pigs? Oh, that Nintendo are on to something when it comes to selling and M$hite just copy?
EDIT: Double post.
Who said anything about Xbox and who are you attacking?
I agree the people on Xbox live are idiots though. They are the sort of people that go on wild tangents for nothing, a bit like you really....
What are you even talking about. Why have you just gone off on one about LIVE users.
I wrote the original post that started the conversation and i was refering to the standard of the advert, an advert that has more than likely been commissioned by Nintendo but made by a third party.
Believe it or not people can say a negative thing about one tiny aspect of a company without believing they are "Gaming royalty".
You have just made yourself out to be a complete fucking idiot congratulations.
Has anyone seen the UK advert for this?
That guy is weird
yeah, do you mean the guy that talks about the previous Mario games he played...
Yeah thats the one, its proper weird, although not quite as sickening as the disgusting Ant and Dec promo.
What kind of sad bastard is actually going to go online to see the outcome of a race between Ant McParklan and some random member of the public (read actor)
Using Ant and Dec to play those games shows how simple they are to play and how little initiative is required for the wii interface.....
....I mean, if those two midget Geordie chimps with foreheads like a cinema screen can do it, anyone can.
I think it's genius of Nintendo using the talentless duo known as Ant and Dec. The mind numbingly stupid general public love those two, and that's the exact audience Nintendo is targeting.
It really worries me how fucking brainless 99% of Britain is. People slag America off, we are just as irritating!
Oh don't get me wrong im sure it sells Wii and games, but surely even the thick bastards who knee jerk vote for 'Jedward' aren't even interested in the result of that shitty race
"It really worries me how fucking brainless 99% of Britain is. People slag America off, we are just as irritating!"
Oh I'm afraid it's actually a world-wide problem..
I agree, every time I switch on my Wii I half expect those two to come barging in the door. Mind you, nothing is as bad as that style boutique DS advert

Maybe its one for the hardcore gamers and I just haven't realised.
Haha I had to check it out. It seems like they are marketing a children's game to adults?
