Kicking off on October 27, GameCity 2009 will see gamers, developers and industry legends descend upon Nottingham’s Old Market Square for one of the UK’s most vibrant celebrations of videogame culture.

The festival will play host to an HD cinema, performances and developer presentations, while Lego Rock Band, Crysis, Flower, Quarrel and the prime cuts of the indie gaming scene will be available to play during the five-day event.

This year’s festival will also see the return of the Indiecade Europe exhibition. Situated in the new GameCity IndieVillage, right in the heart of the Market Square and the festival arena, the juried exhibition will feature the best in indie work from around the globe, alongside a hospitality area to play, demo and talk about the games.

“Indiecade Europe is an essential part of the GameCity programme, and we’re thrilled to be able to welcome the show back again this year for the exclusive European exhibition”, said GameCity director Iain Simons.

Elsewhere at the festival, PaRappa The Rapper’s Masaya Matsuura will deliver his vision of the future videogaming landscape, while artists from various media will discuss their relationship with gaming. The National Videogame Archive will also be reuniting the creators of Elite to celebrate its 25th year – and reconstruct a hangar-sized origami version of its universe with the help of the public.
