The organisers of 2009's GameCity Squared festival have announced that the Nottingham based event will be free to attend.

Anchored around the city’s market square from October 27-31, the event is being billed as the most accessible GameCity yet.

While an events list has yet to be confirmed, last year’s GameCity was headlined by Media Molecule, featured a director’s commentary from Martin Hollis and David Doak on N64 favourite GoldenEye 007, and saw Harmonix and SCEE help launch the National Videogame Archive.

“GameCity represents a unique platform for the games community to step up as an important part of contemporary culture”, said festival director Iain Simons. “We’d like to urge the developer and publisher community to get in touch with ideas, however improbable they might seem.”
